FIFA World Cup 1994 Knock Out Stages

fifa world cup 1994 posterBulgaria's successful run continued and they disposed of the reigning world champions Germany before reaching the semi-finals, their best ever performance in the competition. The knock out stage resulted in a repeat of the 1970 final but this time Brazil and Italy produced a tedious match devoid of chances and for the first time, the World Cup was decided by a penalty competition. With supreme irony, Roberto Baggio, who had scored the vital goals that had taken Italy to the final, missed the vital kick that handed Brazil their fourth world title.
