Scottish League Two 2013 - 2014

spfl logoIn the wake of the restructuring of the top four tiers of Scottish Football, the SFA announced in June that a new 12-member Lowland League would be formed for the 2013-14 season, to run in parallel with the Highland League. The champions of these competitions will play-off with the team finishing last in SPFL 4 from the end of 2014-15, providing a pathway for promotion to the senior ranks for the first time. Members of the fifth tier have until May 2015 to comply with SFA licensing criteria. It has been reported that the fourth tier clubs will not receive any additional revenue under the new arrangements.

The Wee Rovers have tinkered with their colours over the past ten years so it's good to see them once again playing in yellow shirts and red shorts, a combination first worn in 1972.

Berwick have a new home strip that is a radical reinterpretation of their traditional gold and black stripes. Their other kits are unchanged.

After playing in unfamilar red and white shirts for the past two seasons, Clyde have returned to a more traditional look although the home shirt really should have red rather than black trim.

The search for a new home continues and in April the board were authorised to relocate the club to East Kilbride, a short drive from their original home in south-east Glasgow.

At long last, East Stirling have a manufacturer prepared to supply shirts with one-inch hoops in realistic numbers and so restore their traditional appearance. The addition of red socks is a nod to the 1970s. The third kit, in aquamarine and white is also new.

Designer: EC 1893

Sponsor: McDonald & Munro Ltd

After six seasons playing in rather anonymous Hummel outfits, Elgin have followed the example of Kilmarnock, East Fife and Dumbarton by launching new kits under their own brand. Even the choice of brand name echoes those of their fellow competitors. Given the number of standard templates now being worn in Scotland and England, anything that improves diversity is to be welcomed.

Montrose have reverted to all-blue in the popular Victory design for their home strip, while Trophy is chosen for the away set.

Peterhead are yet another team whose Umbro contract has been hoovered up by the competition. The straightforward home shirt is in Adidas' Squadra 13 template while Campeon 13 has been chosen for the alternative.

Designer: Under Armour

The Spiders have turned to Under Armour this season. The home kit is a solidly traditional design with the familiar narrow hoops offset at the shoulders. The narrow hoop theme is continued in the side panels of the away shirt, which, in a break with recent practice, is not in the orange and blue colours of the club's sponsor.

Designer: Macron

Sponsor: Prudential

As well providing bespoke kits to Aston Villa, Leeds, Real Betis and Lazio, Macron do brisk business in Italy (where they are based), Wales, Northern Ireland and now appear in the lower divisions in Scotland. The home strip is little changed from earlier Puma versions but is in one of Macron's workmanlike and well designed templates.
